Tompkins County Gains a New News Station in Downtown Ithaca with NY Local
ITHACA N.Y.(WENY) -- Community members in the Tompkins County area now have a local choice for news, weather and sports from a new local television station. New York Local Ithaca, powered by WENY News, held its official ribbon cutting ceremony Thursday afternoon at its bureau office on West State Street.
The station, owned by parent company Lilly Broadcasting, will focus on local news and weather, telling and sharing stories relevant to events and news happening throughout the Ithaca and surrounding Tompkins County area.
Local business owners in the region came out to help celebrate the kickoff, and meet their new neighbor. The CEO of Lilly Broadcasting, Brian Lilly, came out to congratulate the team and help cut the ribbon on the new location. And some familiar faces from WENY News also were there to show support for the station.
"The channel is an effort by Lilly Broadcasting and WENY to have a physical presence and dedicated news coverage for Ithaca and Tompkins County," says Renata Stiehl, News Director for WENY News/NY Local Ithaca.
New York Local Ithaca broadcasts 24 hours a day on Spectrum cable channel 11 in the Ithaca area.
