ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- You've probably heard of Uber, the popular ride sharing company that serves as an alternative to a taxi. Now the company is offering the Southern Tier a new platform, Uber Eats. All you have to do is download the app on your phone, select your restaurant, and order your food. Within minutes, your order should be ready, picked up by a driver and brought to you. But with the new service comes some growing pains.

"So far, their first day when one of the other Uber drivers did it, he had issues with it," said Uber Eats driver, Robert Vanderpool. "The second day I actually had quite a few issues with it. The second day I actually had quite a few issues. Today when I picked up the order for Uber Eats, it actually went a lot more smoother than what the first two days went."

Right now restaurants and service locations are limited. Places like Elmira and Elmira Heights are covered, with portions of Horseheads, Big Flats, West Elmira and Southport. For restaurants, only McDonald's is being offered at this time. With the whole process becoming a quick turnaround for the fast food chain.

"Basically they get a three minute warning from the time that the driver hits the three minute warning, to McDonald's, to have it ready, shipped and put back in the bag and be ready for us to pick up," said Vanderpool. "For us to be parked and get into the McDonald's and back out should only only take us about a minute and a half."

If you're unsure about the service, Uber Eats drivers say give it a chance.

"Just try it once," said Vanderpool. "You guys might just enjoy the service and you might want to stick with it instead of actually going out and waiting in a three hour long ride at McDonald's."
