Families flock to Harris Hill Pool on Labor Day

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Families from around the area flocked to the Harris Hill pool this Labor Day, in hopes of getting some relief from the heat.
Monday was the final day of the 2018 season--the first season to extend this late in the year. Typically, lifeguard staffing issues have caused the pool to closer earlier.
But this year, families from around the area spent their Labor Day swimming, grilling nearby and enjoying time with their loved ones.
"It's been kind of a rainy season, but [today] is a gorgeous day and we've had lots of people all weekend," says Peg Kutchukian, Lifeguard Supervisor. "We've seen lots of families together [and] enjoying their time together."
On-duty lifeguards have had plenty to do over the past two weekends, with scorching temperatures drawing in residents even this late in the season.
"These past two weekends have been really nice," says Kutchukian. "It's nice to see a number of people who have been coming out."
The pool will re-open for the 2019 summer season in June.
