HHDS High School student tests positive for tuberculosis exposure

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) - A Horseheads High School student has tested positive for exposure to tuberculosis.
That's according to a letter sent to parents by Horseheads Central School District officials. According to the letter, the Chemung County Health Department says there is no public health risk.
District officials say they're following strict procedures and taking all appropriate measures.
According to the letter, most people who test positive for exposure to the TB bacteria never get sick and are never contagious. TB is spread through the air, and the bacteria live for only a short period of time.
Officials say they're cleaning and disinfecting all areas the student may have been with the state-approved disinfectant.
