Crews respond to brush fire in Town of Catlin

 

UPDATE 3/26: The cause of the brush fire has been revealed. According to the Millport Fire Department, the fire was caused by a downed power line. According to Millport Fire Chief John May, one firefighter suffered heat exhaustion during the response. In total, 90 firefighters responded from multiple departments across Chemung and Schuyler Counties.

New York State Forest Rangers determined an area between 5 and 8 acres was burned. 

 


 

CATLIN, N.Y. (WENY) -- Multiple fire departments were called out to a large brush fire in the Town of Catlin Monday afternoon.

The fire happened near Buck Mountain Road -- just off Johnson Hollow Road. Firefighters on scene told WENY News that at least five acres were burned. Crews were able to get 95% of the fire contained by 7 p.m.

There's no word on how the fire started.
