'Into the Woods' comes to life with Horseheads Greenroom Players

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- The classic fairy tales that audiences know, and love will come together on stage as Horseheads High School presents Into the Woods from March 13 to 15.

Cast members Lucie McKenzie and Connor Carpenter says there’s a lot of moving parts to the show.

Into the Woods is about the fairy tale characters we all grew up with, but with a twist,” said Lucie, who plays Little Red Riding Hood.

“They all go into the woods in search of their wishes, but along the way, they discover that getting what you want isn’t always what you hoped for. There are a lot of lessons throughout the show.”

Connor, who plays one of the show’s more lighthearted roles, emphasized the fun energy he and Lucie bring to the production.

“We have some of the more childish, animated roles, so it’s been a blast working on our scenes together,” he said.

The cast and crew have been preparing since December, tackling the complexities of Stephen Sondheim’s score and the intricate moving parts of the production.

“There are so many elements at play in this show,” Connor noted. “It’s one of the biggest challenges we’ve taken on.”

One standout feature of the performance is the inclusion of a puppet representing Milky White, the cow, an essential character in the story.

“Connor works a lot with Milky White,” Lucie shared. “She’s been learning how to move the puppet, and without giving too much away, she even maneuvers two large shoes during the show.”

For those interested in attending, performances will take place at Horseheads High School on March 13, 14, and 15 at 7 p.m., with an additional matinee on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Tickets are priced at $15 for adults and $12 for students and senior citizens.
