SCHUYLER COUNTY, NY (WENY) -- According to Schuyler County officials, there are errors with certain property tax bills. Officials said this impacts veteran and agriculture taxpayers.
"This was an error in calculation, putting the wrong percentage for the exemption in the wrong spot. The [County's Real Property Tax Services] office is going to make sure that they review those specific items," said Schuyler Co. Administrator, Shawn Rosno.
The average error for county veterans exemptions, if any, is estimated to be $60 or less. The average error for county agriculture exemptions will depend on each person's acreage and other factors, like soil type and land use.
Officials said affected taxpayers don't have to do anything to receive a credit. The credit will be provided automatically on next year's bill.
For anyone who would like immediate administrative adjustments, should call the County's Real Property Tax Services Office at (607)-535-8118. You can also call the County Treasurer at (607)-535-8181.
Rosno said if people don't hear back from the office after about a day, they're encouraged to call back.
The County Veteran's Office will be scheduling one or more walk-in sessions to help with the process and answer questions.
A letter will be sent to all impacted taxpayers informing them of the right to any credit and other available assistance.
