Upcoming December Programs & Events at the Southeast Steuben Co. Library

(WENY) -- While 2024 is coming to an end, that doesn't mean crafts and events have to at the Southeast Steuben County Library in Corning.

"It's December, we're kicking off the holiday season. We'll have Gingerbread House Painting on Friday (12/6). They can paint it and decorate it however they want. This is a registration event," said Children's Librarian at the Southeast Steuben County Library, Sue McConnell.

On Thursday (12/5), a local author will be at the library to talk about her book. From noon to 2 p.m., Tara Lynn Osburn will host a meet and greet and talk about her book about celebrating the opening of a new ice skating season.

"A lot of this takes place on the Nasser Civic Center ice rink. She'll have books you can purchase, she'll sign them, and they make great Christmas presents," said McConnell.

On Saturday (12/7), to help kick off the holiday season, 'Elf Academy' will start.

"Think about everything it takes to be one of Santa's helpers. You have to be a good cookie decorator, an eater, [and] a great hot chocolate drinker. You have to be able to make magic reindeer food, you have to be able to make a great ornament, [and] you have to be able to wrap a present. You also have to be a good reindeer finder," said McConnell.

On Saturday the 14th, there will be a Christmas Party where kids can decorate cookies and watch the Polar Express. Registration opens on December 2nd. McConnell said there will be a train conductor coming around to punch kids' tickets.
