Elmira Teen Charged with Murder in Southport Shooting

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Authorities in Chemung County arrested a 17-year-old male on murder and weapons charges in connection to the fatal shooting of an Elmira man outside of a birthday party on November 15th.

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office charged Michael Williams, Jr. with second degree murder, and two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the death of J'Sean Williams of Elmira. The two are not related. Michael Williams, Jr. was arrested in Binghamton on a warrant, taken into custody by the Binghamton Police Department and Broome County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement in Chemung County responded to a reported shooting at a large party at a home on Richard Street in Southport just before 1AM on November 15th. The victim, J'Sean Williams, 21, had been shot multiple times outside of the home. The gathering was for the victim's own birthday party.

J'Sean Williams passed away a short time later at the hospital; police said the suspect had left the scene in a car before law enforcement arrived.

Over the course of the past week, the Chemung County Sheriff's Office says it developed over 100 leads, recovered dozens of items of evidence and conducted a number of interviews, which led them to Williams.

In New York, a juvenile can be charged as an adult for series felony crimes, such as murder.
