BATH, N.Y. (WENY) -- Steuben County is eyeing a $259,696,215 spending sheet for the 2025 fiscal year.

The proposed budget will increase taxes on county residents by 1.76%, according to Steuben County. However, officials say the average property tax rate is expected to go down for the 12th year in a row.

"The average tax rate per thousand will decrease by 4.71%. This is a responsible budget that balances the need to support county services and programs with the goal of minimizing the tax burden on our residents," said Jack Wheeler, Steuben County Manager.

Officials say the average full value tax rate has decreased by 28% over the past decade.

Outlined in the spending plan for this upcoming year, Steuben County is allocating $9.55 million on road construction projects in 2025. The county also plans to spend a large portion of the budget on salary and wage adjustments, increases in Medicare and Social Services as well as public safety and works programs.
