Authorities Investigate Fatal Shooting in Southport

UPDATE 10:40AM: The Chemung County Sheriff's Office says a fatal shooting happened at a large birthday party overnight. 

Deputies were called to a home on Richard Street in Southport at about 12:46AM Friday for a report of a shooting at a home. According to authorities, there had been a large birthday party with about 30-50 people at the home, and the victim had been shot multiple times outside the home.

The Sheriff's Office says the person(s) involved in the shooting took off from the scene in a vehicle. The victim died shortly after the shooting; he has not yet been publicly identified. 

Authorities say the shooting appears to be targeted, and was not a random act. Anyone who lives in the area who may have seen, heard, or have security footage of activity surrounding the time of the incident is asked to contact the Chemung County Sheriff's Office. 


CHEMUNG COUNTY, NY (WENY) -- Early this morning, authorities responded to a report of shots fired near Richard St. in the Town of Southport. 

The incident, which remains under investigation, led to one person being injured and transported to a local hospital.  

As of 8 a.m., law enforcement officials were still at the scene piecing information together and were unable to confirm the condition of the injured individual involved.  

The Chemung County Sheriff's office is overseeing the case, and said no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.  

Details surrounding the cause of the shots fired are still unclear. At this time, no further information has been released, but authorities say they will provide updates as new details come in. 

This is an ongoing investigation.
