ITHACA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Emergency crews were called out for three incidents in the Ithaca Gorge early Sunday morning. Authorities say they found one person dead, rescued another person, and investigated a report of someone jumping into the gorge in three separate incidents.
According to the Ithaca Fire Department, they were called out shortly after 1 a.m. on November 10th for the report of a person that had fallen near the Stewart Avenue Bridge. Ithaca Police were able to locate and stabilize the person, and rescue them from the gorge. Emergency crews say the person was transported to the hospital via helicopter.
The situation is being investigated by IPD, and the person's condition is unknown.
Around 10:30 a.m., emergency crews were called out to Fall Creek Gorge for a report of a person in the water. The Ithaca Fire Department said they found a dead person near the Stewart Avenue Bridge, and used rope systems to recover them. IPD is investigating this situation.
The Ithaca Fire Department says these two incidents are unrelated.
Shortly before 11 a.m., IFD was also called to the Giles Street pedestrian bridge after a passerby reported they believed they saw a person jump into the gorge. After authorities searched the area, they say no victims were located.
