(WENY) -- Guthrie honored the Ferrario Family by naming the Emergency Department at Robert Packer Hospital's Towanda Campus after them. They also unveiled plans for a transformative expansion.
The Ferrario's contribution will support Guthrie by investing over $10 million to improve emergency care for the Towanda community.
The renovation will expand the emergency department to 5,200 square feet to accommodate over 10,000 visits annually, and add state-of-the-art equipment. The updated space will increase patient care areas from six to ten, feature separate entrances for ambulances and pedestrians, and a decontamination unit.
Beyond physical upgrades, the project will enhance Guthrie's Emergency Medical Services (EMS) to meet growing demand. The demand has risen 20% in recent years. EMS upgrades will include a new ambulance, shelter, and equipment for expanded services.
Dr. Edmund Sabaneg, President and CEO of The Guthrie Clinic, praised the Ferrarios' generosity, saying, "This project moves us closer to our vision for accessible, high-quality rural health care."
