Breaking down the 2024 Presidential Election results in the Twin Tiers and beyond

(WENY) -- Donald Trump has officially won back the United States Presidency and, the GOP has reclaimed the Senate majority. Voters in several Twin Tiers counties did their part at the polls to make this happen.

WENY's Political Analyst Dr. Jim Twombly spoke about the national and local results, how Democrats fell short, and what things may start to look like in the coming days and the next few years.

Initially, Dr. Twombly's first thoughts about the 2024 Presidential Election were that the results across the board were shocking.

"It's a bit of a surprise that Donald Trump took all of the swing states," said Dr. Twombly. "I, frankly, was a little bit surprised that it wasn't more of a split between them... I don't think there were any surprises in terms of the outcomes, county by county, in the Twin Tiers, from what I saw."

Locally, Twombly says the results are just about as expected. Unofficial election results from Board of Elections websites in Tioga County (PA), Bradford, Tompkins, Steuben, Chemung, and Schuyler Counties are as follows:

Tioga County (PA):
Votes for Trump/Vance (R): 16,222
Votes for Harris/Walz (D): 5,080

Bradford County (PA):
Votes for Trump/Vance (R): 22,658
Votes for Harris/Walz (D): 7,816

Tompkins County (NY):
Votes for Trump/Vance (R): 10,934
Votes for Harris/Walz (D): 32,181

Steuben County (NY):
Votes for Trump/Vance (R): 29,159
Votes for Harris/Walz (D): 14,938

Chemung County (NY):
Votes for Trump/Vance (R): 21,330
Votes for Harris/Walz (D): 15,032

Schuyler County (NY):
Votes for Trump/Vance (R): 5,583
Votes for Harris/Walz (D): 3,598

"I would say, in terms of what the Twin Tiers looks like, with respect to the rest of the country, it's about what you would expect from a rural area," said Dr. Twombly. "I think Democrats generally are probably a bit disappointed in their turnout numbers that the overall turnout both in New York State locally and even nationally were not what they had hoped."

Additionally, Twombly says there were some areas where the Democratic campaign fell short. In turn, there were aspects which Former President Trump excelled in, leading to Tuesday's results.

"There was one analysis I saw earlier today that noted when he was able to go before a mostly Republican crowd in late 2015 or early 2016 and say to them that the Bush administration lied us into the war in Iraq," said Dr. Twombly. "That rang true with a number of Republicans and even Democrats and independents, and it set Trump up to be the more authentic candidate, even if not necessarily truthful."

Late Wednesday afternoon, Vice President Kamala Harris gave her concession speech to the American people. Harris then announced that she had spoken with Trump and congratulated him on the win. Harris added that she and the Biden administration will do whatever they can to aid in the peaceful transition of power to Donald Trump and his administration.
