CHEMUNG COUNTY, NY (WENY) -- Thousands of voters cast their ballots across Chemung County on Election Day. Voters said it was a smooth process and have their own reasons for voting for Donald Trump or Kamala Harris.
"I voted for Trump. For one, it's the southern border and the crime rate that's going on around here and the inflation. The last four years when he (Trump) was in [we had] $2 gas, food was a lot cheaper, everything," said Lee Granger, an Elmira resident.
"[There's] too many different situations with Donald Trump. Things he's said, things he's done to other people. I voted for Kamala Harris. I'm thrilled to be able to do that and I think she's going to be able to help us," said Karen Carlyle, a Horseheads resident.
Across the country, there was an influx of voters. Election Officials at the Horseheads Fire Dept. said as soon as they opened for voting at 6 a.m. people were already in line. They mentioned how in previous years they would wait for voters to come, but this year was different.
People who cast their votes at places like the Horseheads Fire Dept. said they were in and out within five minutes. Carlyle said leading up to Election Day, she was feeling uneasy.
"I've been anxiously awaiting for this day to come. It's been a lot of anxiety in the last few years... and I feel better that I was able to vote today and have a say in our future," said Carlyle.
Granger said the voting process at the Southport Volunteer Fire Company was a stream-lined process. He said he got right in, it was quick, and he was out within five minutes too. He also said he felt good casting his vote.
"I just wanted to get here, get it done, [and] get it over with. I feel good about my choice. I think we're going to win," said Granger.
