Upcoming November Programs & Events at the Southeast Steuben Co. Library

(WENY) -- The beginning of another month means more programs and events at the Southeast Steuben County Library in Corning. Typically, most of the events are for kids and teens, but this time, there are a couple of events for adults.

"The first Thursday of every month we partner with the Rockwell Museum. This Thursday, we're going to be at the Art Lab and we're going to discuss Thanksgiving from the Native American side. The kids will read a story and they'll make seed balls. One has corn, one has beans, one has pumpkin, and they can take them home and plant them in the spring," said Sue McConnell, the children's librarian at the Southeast Steuben Co. Library.

McConnell also mentioned how Thursday is a half-day for Corning-Painted Post students, so there will be a fairy house-making craft for people to do. The library will have all of the supplies for this craft.

November 2024 is also the general election. While adults are out at polling places, the library is getting kids to 'vote' in a different way.

"In the Children's Department, we are voting on the name for a dragon. We have a little voting booth all set up with the ballots... and there are five names to vote on," said McConnell.

For teens, there's a new program called 'Teen Robotics Club.'

"It's engineering, mechanical engineering, [and] they'll program the robots to do certain tasks. They'll meet later this month and again in December," said McConnell.

The Teen Robotics Club will meet on November 8th and December 6th from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.

For adults looking for something to do, the library has a couple of events just for you.

"There is a writer's group that meets every week. There is a Scrabble Club, Mah-Jongg. They all meet once a week [it's a great way] to keep those minds active," said McConnell.
