Candidate Profiles: Rep. Nick Langworthy, Republican nominee for NY-23 Congressional District

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Rep. Nick Langworthy, the current freshman congressman for New York's 23rd Congressional District, is running for reelection as a Republican against his Democratic opponent, Tom Carle.

Rep. Langworthy lives in Niagara County with his wife and two children. He is the first Congressman since 1987 not from Steuben County to represent this area.

"I believe in showing up and I think that I've demonstrated that throughout my time in Congress. People had a little concern, this was the first time that this part of the Southern Tier, Corning and Elmira was represented by someone that wasn't from this end of the district," said Langworthy. "I think that I've dispelled any of the concerns that were there because any chance I get I travel throughout all the counties in our district."

The NY-23 congressional district stretches along New York's Western Southern Tier region from Tioga County in the east, to Chautauqua County and up into Erie County in the west.

Tom Carle, Langworthy's opponent, is a former businessman who now lives in the Jamestown area. This would be Carle's first elected office if he were to win against Langworthy.
