ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Dakota Rinker, an 11-year-old from Elmira with a big heart and a passion for giving back, is on a mission to honor local first responders through his self-started initiative "Dakota's Give Back Project." What began as a simple gesture at the age of five, using his birthday money to create goody bags for police officers, has grown into a full-scale community project that now includes all first responders.
On November 16th, Dakota is hosting a spaghetti dinner fundraiser at the Golden Glow Fire Department in Pine City. He's inviting both active and retired first responders to enjoy a meal to show his appreciation for their service. Dakota, who has planned, organized, and fundraiser for the event, wants to make sure these community heroes feel recognized and valued.
"I just love the police and I love all of our first responders because they do so much for us and I don't feel like enough people give them that respect that they deserve," says Dakota Rinker.
The public is also welcome to attend, with tickets priced at $8 each.
Through his hard work and dedication, Dakota has delivered over 200 thank-you bags. In 2020, he was named an honorary officer in Elmira Heights for his commitment to supporting first responders. Dakota's efforts have brought joy and gratitude to countless community members.
