Catholic Charities will hold Domestic Violence Awareness event after successful Gala fundraiser

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Catholic Charities of Chemung and Schuyler Counties hosted their annual Gala Fundraiser to support those in need last month and were able to raise over $53,000.

All proceeds came from a live and silent auction, along with raffle baskets donated by local wineries, businesses, and members of the Catholic Charities Board.

Money raised has helped with meal services at the Elmira Community Kitchen, provide hygiene supplies at the homeless shelter, and supply food for the Elmira Community Kitchen.

For those who were unable to attend, but would like to donate, it’s advised to visit the Catholic Charities’ website or checks can be mailed to 215 East Church St. Elmira, NY 14901.

Following the successful Gala event, the nonprofit organization is also bringing awareness to National Wear Purple Day for Domestic Violence.

The event will be held at Wisner Park at 6 p.m. today, Oct. 17, featuring a survivor who will share their story. All members of the community are welcome to attend for free. There will also be shirts being sold for $10 and yard signs available.
