ERWIN, N.Y. (WENY) -- A five-year-old is in the hospital after the car they were in was hit from behind by another vehicle and crashed into a school bus Wednesday, according to New York State Police.

The crash happened shortly after 4 p.m. on State Route 417 in Erwin near Beeman Hollow Rd.

State Police say a driver was traveling east on the road and allegedly did not stop for the school bus that was stopped in the westbound lane. They hit a car from behind that was already stopped for the school bus. That car was propelled forward and hit the side of the bus.

The bus, owned by the Addison Central School District, had six children and a driver inside it, they were all uninjured. Both the driver who hit the car and the driver of the car sent into the bus were also both unhurt. The five-year-old was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital by helicopter and is in stable condition, according to police.

The driver that sent the car into the bus was issued three traffic tickets for their role in the crash. NYSP say their investigation is still ongoing.

New York State Police, Steuben County Sheriff's Office, Gang Mills Fire Department, AMR Ambulance, Tuscarora Ambulance, Addison Fire Department, Campbell Fire Department and LifeNet of New York all responded to the scene.
