Man arrested after allegedly breaking into former Southport Correctional Facility

SOUTHPORT, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Elmira man was arrested by the Chemung County Sheriff's Office after allegedly breaking into the Southport Correctional Facility.

Law enforcement say 35-year-old Kenneth White broke into the former prison and stole items that belong to the Department of Corrections and Community Supervision.

Police discovered the items on October 5, after conducting interviews in the area.

According to the Chemung Co. Sheriff's Office, White damaged multiple master locks to get into the facility and also damaged copper inside the premises.

White was arraigned in Southport Town Court and sent to the Chemung County Jail.
