STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Federal assistance in the form of U.S. Small Business Administration low-interest loans are available to New York residents whose homes or businesses were damaged in the flooding caused by the remnants of Tropical Storm Debby. Help is available to those living in Steuben, Chemung, Schuyler, Yates, Allegany, Livingston and Ontario Counties.

Three types of disaster assistance loans are available, according to New York State. Businesses and non-profits who saw their properties, supplies or equipment damaged due to flooding are eligible to apply for business physical disaster loans. Homeowners and renters who had their building or possessions damaged or destroyed can apply for home disaster loans. Economic injury disaster loans are available to businesses and non-profits to pay necessary bills that they would not be able to afford due to flooding damage.

Applications and instructions to apply can be found here. The filing deadline for the physical property damage applications is Dec. 9. Economic injury loan applications are due July 10, 2025.

“New Yorkers and their businesses should not have to carry the burden of storm recovery alone, and these loans will go a long way in helping those impacted build back better and stronger,” said New York Governor Kathy Hochul. “We have worked diligently to provide resources to areas affected by Tropical Storm Debby, and because of our federal partners, owners of small businesses can now apply for assistance to rebuild and recover.”

Impacted residents can also apply in-person at a Disaster Loan Outreach Center being set up by the SBA on Tuesday. The facility will stay open until Oct. 30. The Disaster Loan Outreach Center is located at the First Presbyterian Church at 10 Main St. in Canisteo. It will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
