Hurricane Milton hit land Wednesday night, and how the south is dealing with the damage and chaos that comes in the wake of a big storm.

Today, 54 Pennsylvania State Troopers were deployed to help with recovery efforts.

The deployment will last for two weeks. Officers will help with life saving missions and distributing critical resources.

A statement from the Pennsylvania State Police said this is the first time troopers have been sent out for a natural disaster since 2012 with Hurricane Sandy in New York and New Jersey.

There are Pennsylvania Emergency Response Agency (PEMA) crews already in North Carolina, helping with Hurricane Helene recovery. The crews will stay there until they are released, at which point they might be redirected to Hurricane Milton disaster relief.
