BIG FLATS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Tanglewood Nature Center is one step closer to making their Canopy Walkway plans a reality.

The Canopy Walkway Project is a multi-year culmination of ideas including forest preservation, education, and discovery.  It will be a 900-foot-long path that will be suspended 70 feet above the ground, designed to give visitors views of the tree canopy and the cliffs along the Chemung River.

On Wednesday night, the special permit went before the Big Flats Town Board for a vote.

"Today the town board passed the special use permit, [Tanglewood] met all the requirements, and were granted the permit," said Big Flats Town Supervisor Lee Giammichele.

According to the Tanglewood news letter, they are making progress working on permits, engineering plans, financials and funding, security, marketing, signage and a lot more.  They say they hope to open the Canopy Walkway Project sometime next year.
