Elmira Heights woman accused of injuring Hornell cop during car chase

HORNELL, N.Y. (WENY) -- An Elmira Heights woman is facing a slew of charges after being accused of leading police on a chase and injuring a police officer after hitting their car in Hornell.

According to Hornell P-D, the chase started around 10 o'clock Thursday morning at the McDonald's parking lot on Route 36. Police said the chase lasted 7 minutes, and it ended when the suspect's car hit a Hornell P.D. patrol car on Route 21 near Almond Road. H.P.D. said the officer was taken to the hospital, treated and released.

Police identified the suspect as 32-year-old Heather L. Johnson. She was charged with assault, reckless endangerment, and criminal possession of a weapon. Police said more charges are pending.
