ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Hurricane and flood victims across several states are still in desperate need of supplies. Many people were forced to leave their homes without being able to take anything with them. One local family with ties to North Carolina, has decided to step up and help.

The Tyler family, who has relatives and connections in the area, woke up Monday morning determined to make a difference for their loved ones and the community in western North Carolina. In just two days, they've managed to gather a variety of items, including blankets, toiletries, water, and sleeping bags.

"We are taking collections and donations for the hurricane victims in Western North Carolina," says Alicia Tyler, Organizer for donation drive. "I was born and raised in an area hit hard Marion, North Carolina and this is where we are taking donations next weekend. "

The family has organized several drop-off times for those who want to contribute. Here's where you can drop off donations:

If these times don't work, the family encourages you to reach out to them directly for more options. They're also accepting monetary donations to help cover gas and other costs for their trip.

Tyler's plan is to personally deliver collected supplies to North Carolina, ensuring that everything goes straight to those who need it.

"Our first order operations we're going to be getting to the chamber of commerce has a distribution center set up at the Mcdowell Tech Community college, so we're dropping off all of the parish or non-perishable items, any water stuff like that, all the clothing they are not taking there, so we'll be taking those," says Kevin Tyler, Co-Organizer for the donation drive. "We have one designated church and we'll be dropping off what they can use and then from there taking to other churches that we've been in contact with to get them out, and then we're scheduled after that to volunteer, whether it's in the community. "
