PINE CITY, N.Y. (WENY) -- A South Carolina woman was arrested by police for allegedly abducting a 14-year-old girl from Pine City Tuesday, according to the Chemung County Sheriff's Office.

Law enforcement say Leann Sherbert, a 37-year-old South Carolina mother, traveled to Pine City with her 15-year-old son to pick up the girl. Police say the boy and girl were talking online for months before the pick up.

When the pair arrived in Pine City, the girl snuck out of her house without telling her parents and left with them, traveling back towards South Carolina.

Police were notified, and the three were tracked down at a rest stop in Virginia. The girl was found and recovered safely.

Sherbert was arrested by the Augusta County Sheriff's Office. She is charged with Kidnapping, and is currently in the Augusta County Jail awaiting extradition to Chemung County.
