Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital Honored for Low Infection Rates

SAYRE, PA (WENY) -- Guthrie Robert Packer Hospital (RPH) has been honored for its excellence in patient safety through the 2024 Excellence in Patient Safety Recognition program by the Hospital and Healthsystem Association of Pennsylvania (HAP.) 

The award recognizes 22 top-performing hospitals in Pennsylvania for maintaining low rates of healthcare-associated infections in 2023.

To qualify, hospitals like Robert Packer demonstrated superior performance in preventing central line-associated bloodstream infections, catheter-associated urinary tract infections, and Clostriodiodes difficile infections.

Joseph Sawyer, President of Guthrie Pennsylvania Regional Hospitals explains, that RPH focuses on quality and safety to ensure patients receive care in a safe environment. 

HAP uses data from the CDC's National Healthcare Safety Network to evaluate hospital performance. HAP President and CEO Nicole Stallings praised hospitals for their commitment to continuous safety and quality improvement.
