UPDATE: 9/30/24 11:20 A.M. -- According to police, the victim was stabbed multiple times in the back. The injuries were no life threatening. Police say the victim refused to cooperate with police, and only asked for medical attention.

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- A person was stabbed during a fight involving almost one hundred people on West Water Street early Sunday morning, according to the Elmira Police Department.

EPD says they were called out to West Water Street around 1 A.M. Sunday morning because there were 75 to 100 people fighting in the road.  They say a person was hurt during the fight and needed medical attention, but a different person was causing a disturbance, preventing the injured person from getting help.  Police say the person causing the disturbance was arrested for disorderly conduct.

Several people were taken to the station and interviewed by police about the fight, but no one was arrested in connection.

Around 4:45 a.m., EPD says they responded to South Main Street because someone had been stabbed.  As it turns out, EPD said this person was stabbed several times in the back during the fight on West Water Street.  The victim was uncooperative with police, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.  Police say their injuries appear to be non-life threatening.

If anyone has any further information regarding this incident, please contact the Elmira Police Department.
