CATON, NY (WENY) -- A Steuben County man is in jail on multiple charges, accused of throwing a machete at a New York State Trooper on Wednesday.
New York State Police say they responded to a home on Gridley Road in the town of Caton for a reported disturbance Wednesday morning, just after 9:30AM. When troopers arrived, they said they began questioning Dana McCarrick, 49. That's when they say McCarrick allegedly grabbed a machete out of a box.
According to NYSP, McCarrick was ordered to put the knife down, but ignored the commands. He's then accused of throwing the machete towards the state trooper before attempting to run off and resist arrest.
McCarrick is in the Steuben County jail without bail, on charges of Crime of Terrorism: Menacing a Police Officer, Criminal Possession of a Weapon, Menacing, Resisting Arrest, Obstruction of Governmental Administration, and Criminal Contempt.
