Two Northern Tier Historical Societies receive state grants

NORTHERN TIER, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Bradford County and Tioga County Historical Societies have received grants to help preserve Northern Tier history.

Each historical society received $8,000 from the Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission.  The goal of the PHMC is to strengthen Pennsylvania's museum community and keep history alive.

“Preserving local history and culture is so important because it helps future generations better understand their past,” said Rep.Tina Pickett (R-Bradford/Wyoming). “I am pleased the Bradford County Historical Society continues to receive this state support.”

The Bradford County Society operates and maintains a genealogical and history research library, early record archives and a museum in the old county jail building in Towanda.  The Tioga County Historical Society is a museum, research library, genealogical archive, and a historic carriage house.

“Our historical society provides a valuable window into our past that also helps us learn and grow in the future,” Clint Owlett (R-Tioga/Bradford) said. “I am happy to see the Commonwealth supporting this important service to the community.”

The PHMC has awarded 4 million dollars worth of grants this year.
