Elmira City School District investigate alleged social media threat, Law Enforcement deem not credible

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- The Elmira City School District has confirmed that it has increased security at Ernie Davis Academy and Broadway Academy following threats made against both schools.

Around midnight, a social media post via SnapChat began to circulate warning students that someone would enter the building with gunfire.

According to Beth Manwaring, Public Information Coordinator for the Elmira City School District, says law enforcement began an investigation and reported to The District that there is no credible evidence of a threat but will continue to closely investigate the post.

“The District continues to be in constant communication with the Sheriff,” says Manwaring adding, “Several law enforcement agencies have committed to having additional supports at our schools.”

School principals have since communicated with families of students in a letter sent this morning from Superintendent Hillary J. Austin. that can be found here.
