Able2 holds 5th Annual Guts and Grit 5K in Eldridge Park

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Eldridge Park hosted a different kind of race this morning as Able2 invited runners and anyone interested to a 5K and 1 mile walk for fundraising and spreading awareness on resources for those with disabilities.

The 5th annual Guts and Grit 5K was open to runners, rollers, and strollers -- and participants got to choose the distance they would go at the event. The 5K runners went first, followed by the 1 mile walk, which saw most of the attendees participating.

Able2 along with its parent organization Alliance for Empowerment held the event in-line with their mission to assist and advocate for people with developmental and intellectual disabilities.

"We're hoping people are more aware of Able2, that it exists in our community, that they are aware of all of the services that we provide, that they can maybe participate next year, and if they do have someone that needs our services, that they can access our website or social media," remarked Alliance for Empowerment Executive Assistant Stephanie Ridosh.

Able2 is hopeful that the 5K makes area residents aware of their services and encourages the public to make family members with disabilities aware of the resources that Able2 can provide. Events and bulletins are posted regularly to Able-2's website.
