Local banks and credit unions raise $4,000 for Guthrie Cancer Center in kickball tournament

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Several local financial institutions took to the kickball field to compete for the title of champion while raising money for the Guthrie Cancer Center.

Following a foggy start, it was a picture perfect Saturday at the Holding Point Recreation Complex in Horseheads, where employees from several different financial institutions came together to raise money for a good cause, while competing for the title of kickball champion.

"We're just excited that the credit unions and banks can come together to raise money for Guthrie Cancer Center. They really do a lot for the people that are struggling with cancer in our community. So it's good to be out here and raise money for them and just have fun while doing it," said First Heritage Federal Credit Union employee Kayla Harrison.

A check for four thousand dollars was presented to the Guthrie Cancer Center, the funds raised from tournament registration fees. The competing institutions included First Heritage Federal Credit Union, M&T, Corning Credit Union, Community Bank, and also included a team representing Guthrie.

"You definitely get to see how people are outside of work and we just won the first game and it's exciting But we all just started we know it's for the Cancer Center and for a good cause," added Harrison.

The double elimination tournament featured plenty of fun and exciting moments, all of which would be going to benefit charity. Many in attendance are hopeful to continue this tradition every year.
