NASCAR Cup Series driver Austin Cindric prepares to compete in Go Bowling at the Glen playoff race

WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (WENY) - NASCAR week at Watkins Glen International is officially underway as campers began to arrive early Wednesday morning. We continue our Thunder at the Glen race week coverage, brought to you by Williams Toyota of Elmira as we hear from Cup Series Driver, Austin Cindric.

Cindric currently sits in 7th in the NASCAR playoff standings after finishing in 10th in Atlanta last week. Austin finished in 16th in last year's Go Bowling at the Glen. Cindric has had previous success at WGI, winning the Arca Menards Series East race at WGI back in 2016.

On Wednesday, Cindric said he's not too focused on points going into Bristol, but he just wants to see the ADV next to his name.

Austin discussed competing on a track like Watkins Glen, whether or not he feels he has an advantage, and what he thinks the competition will be like for the playoffs.

"Out of any road course on the schedule, whether if it's veteran drivers or younger drivers all have a lot of reps at Watkins Glen and I would say it's the most similar to an oval race just because of how high-speed the track is and somewhat one direction with the exception of the bus stop so I go in there thinking that I have a massive advantage over other guys? No, I don't think so, but there is a comfort level of driving at tracks like that for me that may not exist for other drivers," Cindric said. "I'm sure qualifying it'll be separated by only a tenth of the second for probably 15 or 20 spots. That's how it was last time we were there and should be no different."
