One person dead after accident on Backer Rd. in Catlin

CATLIN, N.Y. (WENY)  -- One person died Monday after an accident on Backer Rd. in the Town of Catlin.

According to New York State Police, Floyd Werner, a 76-year-old from Gaines, Pennsylvania was killed in the crash.

Police say Werner was driving his truck south on the road when he left the pavement and hit a ditch. That caused his truck to flip, ejecting him from the vehicle. The accident happened Monday around 4:30 p.m.

WENY's reporter on scene saw a red truck off the south side of the roadway with it's roof caved in, damage to the front fender and the side of the truck bed.

Werner was pronounced dead at the scene by a medical examiner.

The Tompkins Corners Fire Department, Erway Ambulance and New York State Police all responded to the scene.
