Police share risks over back to school pictures

ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Elmira Police warned Friday against including key information on a popular "back to school" photoboard that many parents use in first day pictures.

Police say if you want to use them, be careful where you post it, as strangers may use that information to learn key facts like where your child goes to school, their after-school activities and more.

To combat this, police recommend including less information on the boards, or use less descriptive facts like their favorite food, color and so on. That way, bad actors looking for trouble have one less resource at their disposal.
