UPDATE: 8/29/2024 -- The Schuyler County Sheriff's Office announced it has arrested a 43-year-old from Watkins Glen on multiple charges, after a standoff shut down part of Cross Road in the Town of Reading, for a good part of Wednesday, August 28th. Dennis Thompson has been charged with criminal contempt, menacing and endangering the welfare of a child in connection with what police are calling a domestic violence incident.

According to police, the situation started after a single vehicle crash on Cross Road, and during the investigation, Thompson allegedly became confrontational with deputies from the porch of his home. Police say it was known Thompson had an active felony arrest warrant, and they made several unsuccessful attempts to speak with him throughout the day.

At around 8:30 p.m., police say a tactical team from the Chemung County Sheriff's Office entered the home and took Thompson into custody. He was then transported to the Schuyler County Sheriff's Office to await arraignment at the Schuyler County CAP Court.
