A local non-profit hosts fundraiser in Teal Park to help spay and neuter stray cats

HORSEHEADS, N.Y. (WENY) -- Teal Park in Horseheads was filled with animal lovers hoping to help out the stray cat population in the area. The money raised from the picnic style fundraiser will go to a local non-profit, Tender Loving Cats Trap-Neuter- Return (TLC TNR), and their spaying and neutering services.

The picnic was held from 5:30 P.M. to 8:30 P.M. and offered plenty of things for guests to enjoy. People were able to hang out, socialize, listen to music, enter raffles, and eat food.

Alongside the fun, the organization collected donations as guests took part in what they had to offer. All of the money used to buy food, dog/cat bowls, and enter raffles will go to TLC TNR to assist them with spaying and neutering stray cats in the area.

Last year, the organization helped to spay and neuter 221 cats total. In the first half of 2024, TLC TNR has fixed 115 cats.

"The Village of Horseheads, Teal Park, a great place to come and visit on Thursday nights," said Lisa Cardamone, a representative and volunteer with TLC TNR. "We were lucky enough to get a spot to come in with a really great band, the Dean Goble Band, and talk about spaying and neutering your family pets. The cat that's hanging around your back door, your daughter's cat, whoever's cat that needs attention and, if you need help with dogs, we can help with that also but, our primary goal is to reduce the population of cats in the area and surrounding areas and education of the need to get them spayed and neutered."

For people who are still looking to help out the organization, donations can be sent to Community Foundation at 301 S. Main Street in Horseheads through checks made out to TLC TNR.

If you'd like to help in another way, you can drop off cans to Krazy Kans in either the Elmira Heights or Horseheads location and credit those returns to Peter's account.
