One person dead after car crash in Danby

DANBY, N.Y. (WENY) -- One person is dead after a car accident in Danby Wednesday afternoon. According to the Tompkins County Sheriff's Office, it happened on Danby Rd. around 1 p.m.

Law enforcement say the driver of a Hyundai sedan going south on the road turned left, and did not yield to another person driving north in a Toyota sedan, who had the right of way. The two vehicles hit each other head-on. Both drivers were hurt in the crash.

The driver of the Hyundai had serious injuries and was taken to a trauma center, where they later died Thursday. The Toyota driver was taken to the Cayuga Medical Center to be treated for their injuries.

The Sheriff's Office said the Toyota driver was not at fault for the accident, and will not be criminally charged.

Law enforcement have not yet identified the person that died.
