Since the Vietnam War, over 300,000 veterans have died from exposure to the toxic chemical 'agent orange'

The federal government has expanded who can access benefits that combat exposure to the chemical, but not all veterans know they qualify for extra help.

A group of bipartisan lawmakers worked to change that status quo.

This week, the Pennsylvania house passed House Resolution 355 to create an Agent Orange task force.

The force would study and recommend the best ways to educate and connect veterans to the benefits they qualify for.

These benefits can range from VA healthcare coverage to disability compensation.

As years pass, more and more health risks have been linked to the chemical.

Numerous cancers, neurological issues, and even genetic conditions passed to children are some of the side affects.

"The programs, the benefits and the treatments available, as well as changes in eligibility, often evolve over time,” said Rep. Paul Takac (D-82). "Therefore, ensuring that we do everything possible to create awareness and improve access to those resources is critical.

The task force will be run by a several lawmakers, medical professionals, and representatives from military organizations across the state.
