No One Hurt After Glider Crash on Harris Hill Driving Range

UPDATE 10/29/23: The Chemung County Sheriff's Office released more information surrounding a glider crash on the Harris Hill Driving Range Saturday afternoon.

Sheriff's deputies responded to the driving range for a reported glider crash just before 4:30PM Saturday. According to the Sheriff's Office, the glider was being piloted by a 67-year-old man from Allentown, who is a certified sailplane instructor. A passenger in the glider was a 14-year-old girl from Horseheads, who was a flying student who was taking a lesson.

While attempting to land, authorities say the glider's pilot and passenger said they were unable to get low enough to safely land on the runway at Harris Hill, and attempted to make an emergency landing at the driving range nearby. While attempting to land, the pilot temporarily lost control of the aircraft, causing it to tip and damage the wing and nose of the glider.

Neither the pilot nor the student was injured during the incident. The glider was later disassembled and removed from the driving range.

The Chemung County Sheriff's Office responded to the scene, and said no injuries were reported.
