Pennsylvania announces law enforcement hiring initiative

HARRISBURG, PA. (WENY) -- Pennsylvania is helping municipalities fill vacant law enforcement positions across the Commonwealth. In a plan announced Monday, the state will spend $3,046,321 to attract and train 692 recruits statewide.
The funding comes from the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency. The money will be spent to attract, hire and train high-quality law enforcement recruits.
Locally, 5 police positions will be supported under the program. Pennsylvania will spend $21,000 to hire three officers in Bradford County. The state will spend 2,400 to train two police recruits in Tioga County.
Pennsylvania has also secured state funding to add over 800 troopers to the Pennsylvania State Police.
