Elmira's 'Fight on Blight' cites 2,975 properties in one year
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- December marks one month of the City of Elmira's Fight on Blight list effort.
In a report released Monday, the city says they have cited 2,975 properties from December 1, 2023 to December 1, 2024. Citations range from junk and debris, to high grass, to buildings being in extreme disrepair.
City Manager Mike Collins says the city will continue with the program.
"This current year we were understaffed in the department. They still were able to do a lot of citations throughout the city of Elmira, over 2,900 citations citywide. Next year, we currently have all positions in the department full with the exception of one part-time code officer. So, I do foresee the number will be equal or even higher," said Collins.
The city will continue issuing monthly 'Fight on Blight' reports for the upcoming year.
