STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- Steuben County announced on Tuesday, Dec. 10th that the County is waiving the cost of taking the civil service exam for 2025. According to county officials, the hope is that by waiving the $15 fee, the number of barriers for potential candidates interested in applying to work for the county will be reduced.

“This move to waive the Civil Service exam fees is an important step toward making county employment more accessible to the public," said Nate Alderman, personnel officers for Steuben County, adding "By removing this cost, we hope to encourage a more diverse range of individuals to apply for positions in local government."

For many county and state jobs, civil service examinations are mandatory. And while $15 doesn't sound like a lot, it can add up for applicants who apply for multiple jobs.
