Elmira Police Investigating Hotel Pool Drowning

ELMIRA, NY (WENY) -- Elmira police are investigating the death of a man who died after drowning in a hotel pool Saturday night.
Police were called to the Clarion Inn on East Water Street just before 8 P.M. on November 2, for a report of an unresponsive person at the bottom of the pool. The person was later identified as Claudell Betts, 42, of Elmira.
Police say officers were able to remove Betts from the pool, and immediately begin life-saving measures, assisted by firefighters with the Elmira Fire Department and members of Erway Ambulance.
Betts was taken by ambulance to Arnot Ogden Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead just before 9 P.M.
According to EPD, their investigation reveals the drowning was accidental and no foul play is suspected.
