Former Broome Co. principal arrested for raping child in Steuben Co.

STEUBEN COUNTY, N.Y. (WENY) -- The New York State Police announced Thursday they arrested a Chenango County man for allegedly raping a child two years ago.
According to police, Daniel Erickson, a 55-year-old from Greene, met with and then raped a 14-year-old in Steuben County in October 2022. Erickson is charged with Rape and Endangering the Welfare of a Child. Erickson is the former Johnson City Middle School after resigning in 2023 in light of a separate crime involving a child.
He was taken to the Steuben County Jail, where he was arraigned with bail set at $5,000 cash and $10,000 bond. Erickson posted bail and was then released.
State Police say the arrest came after a months-long investigation sparked by a referral given to them by the New York State Department of Social Services child abuse hotline in February.
In a separate case, Erickson resigned from his position as principal at Johnson City Middle School after he tried to lure a teenage girl in 2023. He pleaded guilty to charges after prosecutors said he used Snapchat to pretend he was a student, and then tried to lure the victim to a remote area in Broome County to have sex with her. When he arrived at the meeting location, he was arrested by deputies.
