ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) -- Meet Cora, WENY's Pet of the Week from the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA!

Cora is a six-month-old Labrador retriever/mix who loves a good snuggle time. She also has a lot of energy, so she will need an owner or family that can find an output for that energy like playing ball and taking her on walks. They also would need to train her with obedience skills.

It is unclear at this time how Cora reacts to cats, but the shelter believes she could do well with a proper introduction. As for dogs, the SPCA requires a meet-and-greet with any owner who has one, but believes she should do well with them. Any younger children should be no younger than 10 years old, unless they are very dog-savvy, as Cora's large amount of energy hasn't been controlled just yet.

The SPCA is still looking for volunteers for its Spay and Neuter Clinics, specifically those who would like to help wake up animals after surgery and assist veterinarians. Clinics take place mainly Wednesdays and Sundays, but there are also some on Mondays and Fridays depending on the week. Each day has two different shifts -- morning and afternoon -- that you can choose from. For more information, head to the Chemung County SPCA's website here.

Another way to give back to the SPCA is through its first big fundraiser since the COVID-19 pandemic. The banquet will be held at the Horseheads Elk Lodge on Nov. 19 from 7 to 10 p.m. Guests can enjoy music, drinks and raffles, and also learn more about the SPCA at their own designated table. They will be selling items such as t-shirts and sweatshirts, and will also be providing information on the programs they offer at the shelter. Tickets are $10 and can be bought either at the door or at the shelter.

If you or someone you know is interested in adopting Cora, fill out an application on the Chemung County Humane Society & SPCA's website here.
