Multiple departments respond to "massive" barn fire in Burdett

BURDETT, N.Y. (WENY) -- Let it burn: this is what fire officials in Burdett say needs to happen to a "massive" barn fire which broke out this afternoon. Emergency personnel first responded to the scene on County Road 9 around 3:00 p.m.
Multiple crews were called out to the scene, located near Dolphsburg Road. Fire officials tell WENY News the structure is a "hay-bale" barn and there were people moving hay around during the day today - however, no one was inside the building at the time the fire began.
Fire personnel say they have to let the fire burn because the structure is just so large. At one point, first responders brought out an excavator to help take down siding and other possible dangers, allowing the flames breathe.
Officials also say there were no injuries. The fire remains under investigation at this time.
