Chemung County Board of Elections Warns of Voter Registration Scam
ELMIRA, N.Y. (WENY) – WENY News has learned that several people in the area have received scam text messages and phone calls claiming they are not registered to vote.
According to individuals who have received these texts, the text tells them to call a certain number. For the phone calls, the caller reportedly asks for sensitive, personal information they claim they need to register that individual to vote.
The Chemung County Board of Elections says they have received several reports regarding this scam. They say one person reported they were called from the phone number 607-203-9048.
Additionally, the board says this number is not affiliated with any candidate, political group or election board.
If you receive a call or text from this number, or any number claiming you are not registered to vote, do not give any of your personal information away. Report the scam to your county sheriff's department.
